Suspect Crashes In High-Speed Dana Point Pursuit: OCDA

The regular traffic stop on Pacific Coast Highway quickly escalated when the driver peeled off from deputies, authorities said.

DANA POINT, CA — A man was arrested after leading Orange County Sheriff's deputies on a brief, high-speed chase in Dana Point, authorities said Tuesday.

The incident happened on Nov. 19, when deputies initiated a traffic stop near Pacific Coast Highway and Doheny Park Road.

According to deputies, during the traffic stop, the driver peeled away in his vehicle instead of remaining at the stop.

The brief pursuit came to an end when the driver crashed and tried to flee on foot. He was found and detained, police said.

Deputies found a loaded firearm in the man's vehicle, as well as evidence of prior use of methamphetamine and additional narcotics earlier that day.

He was booked on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges, including DUI, evading, resisting arrest and firearm-related violations. He was not identified by police.
