DANA POINT, CA — A group of restaurants at the Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel are banding together to help save the bees in the United States.

The hotel's 180blu, RAYA and Bar RAYA restaurants are taking part in a campaign called "Viva Abejas," which is Spanish for "long live the bees."

The campaign will feature each restaurant offering bee-themed food and drink items that feature honey and bee pollen, according to Richard Sandoval Hospitality, the organization behind the campaign.

Items include a quinoa dish made with bee pollen and a margarita with honey and lavender. The items will be available from March 22 to April 24, the organization said.

A portion of the proceeds from the special menu items will be donated to the Help Save the Bees Foundation, an organization dedicated to raising awareness about the challenges faced by bees and "their impact on our planet and the human race," according to its website.

The "Viva Abejas" website said that "improper pesticide use, loss of habitat, parasite and diseases and climate change" have contributed to nearly one-third of the U.S.'s honeybee population dying off.

Honeybees play an important role in our food, the campaign website said.

"One in every three bites of food depends on bees for pollination," the website said. "As a restaurant group focused on Latin cuisine, bees are important as they are major pollinators of the agave plant and avocados."
