Coroner IDs 33-Year-Old Woman Who Died Trying To Cross State Route 74

The woman walked "directly into the path" of a truck driven by a 21-year-old Hemet man who was traveling at about 55 mph, the CHP reported.

HOMELAND, CA — A woman who walked directly into the path of traffic Monday night on state Route 74, east of Lake Elsinore, did not survive after getting hit by a truck, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The fatal incident was reported at approximately 9:35 p.m. on the westbound side of the highway, just east of Highland Palm Drive, in the unincorporated community of Homeland.

The Homeland woman, identified by the coroner as 33-year-old Carrie Walrath, walked across the highway in a southerly direction, "directly into the path" of a 2002 Ford F250 pickup driven by a 21-year-old Hemet man who was traveling at about 55 mph, the CHP reported.

The truck driver stopped. He cooperated with CHP investigators, according to the agency.

The woman died at the scene.
