Coroner IDs Man, 26, Killed By Car On 215 Freeway In Perris

Officials Sunday identified a man who was fatally struck by a vehicle on the Escondido (215) Freeway in Perris late Saturday.

PERRIS, CA — Officials Sunday identified a man who was fatally struck by a vehicle on the Escondido (215) Freeway in Perris.

The accident happened at about 10:50 p.m. Saturday on the northbound side of the freeway near D Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Before the collision, callers told a CHP dispatcher that a pedestrian was stumbling around in the roadway waving his hands and yelling at passing vehicles.

The pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

He was later identified as Gilberto Camarena, 23, of La Puente.

It's unclear why Camarena was in the roadway. No arrested were reported.
