Driver Shot By Deputy In Lake Elsinore

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — A male driver who brandished a handgun was shot by a deputy late Monday night in Lake Elsinore, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.
The shooting was reported at 11:31 p.m. in the area of Bromley Avenue and Baker Street.
According to the sheriff's department, a deputy from it Lake Elsinore station was checking on a vehicle.

"When the deputy approached the vehicle, the driver produced a handgun and a deputy-involved shooting occurred," the agency reported.
The driver was hit by gunfire and, after receiving at-the-scene medical care, he was transported to a local hospital where he remains in stable condition, according to the agency.

The deputy was placed on paid administrative leave according to sheriff's department policy.
Neither the driver nor the deputy were publicly identified by the sheriff's department.
An investigation into the shooting will be led by the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office, aided by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.
