Elsinore High Briefly Locked Down Due To Nearby Police Activity

UPDATED: Sheriff's officials say they responded to the area after getting a report of a person with a possible weapon.

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — Elsinore High School was briefly placed on lockdown on Wednesday afternoon due to police activity nearby. Sheriff's officials tell Patch someone spotted a person with what appeared to be a weapon.

The lockdown was first reported around 12:50 p.m.

"Non-emergency precautionary lockdown at Elsinore HS due to police activity in vicinity and NOT at the school, students safe," Lake Elsinore Unified School District said in a Facebook post. "We will update."

Sheriff's officials say they responded to the area after getting a call that a person had a weapon.

"It was reported that there was an individual walking around with a weapon, and the subject was reportedly near the high school, so that's why they locked it down," sheriff's Deputy Robyn Flores told Patch.

Authorities caught up with the man a short time later in the parking lot of a local fast food eatery.

"They detained the individual but did not find any weapon," she said.

As of 1:30 p.m., the lockdown at the school was lifted and police remained at the scene investigating the case.
