RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — A 20-year-old man who was killed in a fiery crash while driving home from work this week on the 91 freeway was identified by family as Jose Cornejo Cubias.

The victim's loved ones are now raising money to help pay costs associated with bringing his body home to El Salvador, according to a GoFundMe post that had raised more than $6,100 Thursday afternoon.

Cubias was heading west on the freeway in a Toyota 4Runner around 12:30 a.m. Monday, near the Interstate 15 interchange in Corona, when a Lincoln Mark LT clipped his SUV's left rear, according to a California Highway Patrol report.

The impact caused the Toyota to overturn and catch fire. The driver, identified by family as Cubias, was trapped inside the inferno and died.

The Lincoln driver, 34-year-old Christopher Magallon of Santa Ana, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury/death, according to the CHP. Jail records show he was also booked on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter.

"Jose was just 20 years old. His birthday was coming up in May," the GoFundMe reads. "He was very funny, and so incredibly giving. He always had a big smile and always helped his loved ones in need. He was very adventurous and spontaneous. He loved nature and his people. He was born in El Salvador and the day he passed, he had just been accepted to receive a Juvenile Visa. Our mother and father are in El Salvador, while only a bit of our family is here in California."

According to the GoFundMe post, without financial help, Cubias's body "will be delayed here in California, and our parents will not be able to see their baby boy.

"Thank you for being so supportive, and if you can't give monetary support, a prayer is most accepted."

Formal charges against Magallon were expected to be filed. He remains jailed at Southwest Detention Center in lieu of $75,000 bail. Court records show he has no criminal history in Riverside County.
