Lake Elsinore Smoke Likely From Neighboring Prescribed Fire

BREAKING: Seeing smoke in the region? It's likely from a prescribed burn, fire officials say.

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — Smoke visible in the Elsinore valley on Thursday is likely coming a county fire operation happening nearby, officials tell Patch.

Riverside County firefighters are conducting a prescribed burn in fields of dry vegetation near La Sierra Avenue and Cajalco Road in Lake Matthews. Fire officials advised nearby communities that smoke will be visible during the burn, "but will disperse quickly and is not expected to be a health hazard."

Residents also reported smelling the smoke in the region.

As of 1:30 p.m., fire officials say there are no other fires currently burning in the region.

There was another, small fire in Perris, but that only burned about a half-acre of vegetation and was fully contained by 12:30 p.m., according to the fire department.
