Pedestrian Struck, Killed On Interstate 215 In Perris
The man was hit early Thursday morning on the southbound side of the freeway, just south of 4th Street.
PERRIS, CA — A man who was struck and killed while running across Interstate 215 in Perris early Thursday morning was identified by the coroner as a resident of the city.
Robert Nira, 44, was struck a few minutes after 1 a.m. on the southbound side of the freeway, just south of 4th Street, according to the coroner.
Based on a preliminary report from the California Highway Patrol, Nira "jumped over the center median concrete wall and began running in a westerly direction, across the southbound I-215 traffic lanes."

He was hit by a 34-year-old Menifee man who was behind the wheel of a 2016 Subaru Outback.
Nira died at the scene. The Subaru driver suffered minor injuries and was not arrested, according to the CHP.

It's unclear why Nira was on the freeway.
The CHP, Temecula Area office is conducting the crash investigation. Witnesses are encouraged to contact the agency at 951-506-2000.
