Preliminary details showed Davidson was on a 2020 Yamaha motorcycle heading north on Van Buren when he collided with a 2007 Toyota Camry driven by a 66-year-old Riverside man. The impact caused the deputy to be ejected from the bike.

The motorcycle caught fire but was quickly extinguished by bystanders, Railsback reported.

Davidson was transported to a local hospital but died from his injuries.

The Toyota driver was sent to a local hospital due to complaints of pain, Railsback said. An update on his condition was not released. No arrests were announced.

All lanes of Van Buren Boulevard between California Avenue and Garfield Street were closed for several hours due to the crash investigation.

"The thoughts and prayers of all of us at the Riverside Police Department go out to Deputy Davidson’s family, loved ones, and everyone at the Riverside County Sheriff's Office," the agency shared on social media.
