Woman Suspected In Fatal Lake Elsinore Hit-And-Run Arrested

Thirty-two-year-old Santa Ana resident Margarita Rosales was booked on suspicion of manslaughter, hit-and-run and DUI.

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — Riverside County sheriff's officials Monday released the name of the suspected drunk driver believed to have caused a crash in Lake Elsinore that killed one person and hospitalized two others.

Thirty-two-year-old Santa Ana resident Margarita Rosales fled the scene of the crash but was arrested a short time later, said Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Brad Foster.

The two-vehicle crash was reported at 10:33 p.m. Saturday in the 29000 block of Lake Street, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

One person, who was not immediately identified, was pronounced dead at the scene and two others were taken to a hospital by ambulance, one with major injuries and the second with minor injuries, authorities reported.

Two other people were evaluated at the scene, with one declining further medical treatment.

"It is believed alcohol and speed are factors in the collision," Foster said.

Rosales was booked at the Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta on suspicion of manslaughter, hit-and-run and driving under the influence causing injury, he said.
