Woman's Stabbing Death In Wildomar: Murder Charge Filed Against Son
Evan Jon Zavala, 24, was formally charged Thursday.

WILDOMAR, CA — A Wildomar man held in county jail in lieu of $1 million bail following his 64-year-old mother's stabbing death was formally charged Thursday with murder.
In addition to the murder count, Evan Jon Zavala, 24, is also facing a sentencing enhancement of using a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony. His arraignment Friday was postponed.
Zavala was arrested after sheriff's deputies responded just before 10 p.m. Monday to a home in the 33000 block of Breckenridge Trail in Wildomar.

It's not clear who called for help, but deputies found a mortally wounded woman inside the residence. First aid was rendered until paramedics arrived and transported her to a local hospital, where she died from her injuries.
Zavala, who was at the scene, is the woman's son, the sheriff's department confirmed. He was detained for questioning then subsequently taken into custody and booked into Southwest Detention Center.

Information about a possible motive for the alleged slaying was not released nor were details about a weapon type.
The sheriff's department said the investigation into the killing was continuing, but no additional suspects were sought.
Zavala has no criminal history in Riverside County, according to court records.
