Upcoming events at Irvine Farm Food Lab with a Big Event Feb 11th
Hi,
You are invited to attend our annual scion wood exchange to be held Sunday February 11, 2024, at the Irvine Great Park, Farm + Food Lab. We had a very positive response last year.
This free event is an open exchange of scion wood, plant cuttings, and anything else that is garden related. You are invited to donate items you are no longer using which others might have a use for.

Before then, we will hold 2 meetings to discuss and possibly demonstrate grafting and other propagation techniques. These will also be held at the Irvine Great Park, Farm + Food Lab:
Saturday Jan 13th 10:30 am to 11:30 am
Saturday Jan 27th 10:30 am to 11:30 am
Register at https://southoccrfg.org/monthly-meeting/
One of these meetings will include a discussion on Air Layering. Because we do not yet know which date the speaker will be available, please visit the website links below. That meeting will be longer because of the additional topic.

We are inviting various gardening related vendors to have booths. Check out what new or interesting things they will be showing. Some vendors may be selling products as well.
We have also invited other California Rare Fruit Growers chapters to setup their own tables to introduce themselves and their chapters.
We need more volunteers, so if you or someone you know can help out the day of the exchange, it will help us tremendously to continue hosting future events.
Let us know if you can prior to the event, as it helps with planning.
If you are able to temporarily store and/or drill drainage holes in the plastic pots prior to Sunday, please let us know asap. Frank is running out of storage space for the pots to be given away that day.

If you or someone you know is good at welding steel, and who is interested in helping a local food pantry, please contact Frank. He has 2 "u-boat platform carts" he is refurbishing and is unable to finish the repairs since injuring his shoulder.
Future 2024 events:
We have rescheduled the meeting on Japanese gardening tools and how to sharpen garden tools. We hope to hold it in January or February.
Tour of Irvine Water District treatment plant. You will find this a very informative view of what happens to wastewater after leaving your home.
Tour of the San Onofre nuclear power plant. Past attendees' reviews were glowingly (pun intended) positive. Participants must be 12 years old or older.
Tour of the Irvine Bowerman Landfill. It is the 9th largest in the US. Last year we held 3 due to high demand.
Multiple grafting workshops. Those held after the February scion wood exchange will be hands-on with guidance.
