National Night Out: Moraga PD To Participate In Annual Community Event

Police said that given the recent thefts and burglaries in the town, this is more important than ever.

MORAGA, CA—The Moraga Police Department plans to be out in the community Tuesday, Aug. 6, for National Night Out 2024 and would like to visit any neighborhoods hosting block parties or gatherings for the event.

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign in the United States and Canada. It promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer and more caring places to live.

"National Night Out was started to enhance the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community," Moraga police said."This is more important than ever, especially given the recent thefts and burglaries that have occurred in our Town."

Police were referring to the morning of Sunday, June 30 when suspects drove a stolen Lexus into town and entered at least 15 different unlocked vehicles throughout the neighborhoods of Rimer/Camino Pablo/Larch between 6 a.m. and 6:30 a.m.

Police said that, unfortunately, some of the vehicles had garage door remote controls inside, allowing the suspects to access garages through which they were able to enter residences. The investigation was ongoing as Moraga PD looked into each of the incidents and coordinated with other jurisdictions where the suspects also committed crimes.
