Should Moraga Streamline Application Process for Minor Projects?

The town council will discuss a proposal to exempt some projects from design review.

Allowing that the city’s design review process for minor projects is “difficult for applicants and difficult for town staff to administer,” Moraga officials are weighing a proposal to exempt entire categories of projects from official review.

Here are four ways Shawna Brekke-Read, Moraga’s Planning Director recommends amending the town’s design review ordinance:

  1. Streamline the procedures for construction of minor changes.
  2. Create a new class of exempt projects for other minor changes in single-family districts, similar to those exempt projects that currently exist in the single-family regulations.
  3. Create a new list of classes of exempt projects in commercial, multi-family, agricultural, and institutional zoning districts.
  4. Authorize staff to process administrative Design Review approval for minor projects in commercial, multi-family, agricultural, and institutional zoning districts.
The Moraga Town Council will discuss the proposal at its meeting Wednesday night.
