5 Nonprofits To Get Behind In The Livermore Area
Looking for ways to serve your community? Here are five organizations that are always in need of volunteers and donations.
LIVERMORE, CA — Nonprofit groups are keystone community organizations in the Livermore area. Fortunately, there is no shortage of organizations to volunteer or get behind financially, and that need your help.
Here are five outstanding nonprofit groups you should know about in the Livermore region:
1. Sunflower Hill: This organization serves people with intellectual and developmental disabilities with a focus on affordable housing, life skills and enrichment programs in Livermore and throughout the East Bay. Its newest, planned community will be Sunflower Hill at Grace Pointe, a development at Dublin Boulevard and Brannigan Street in Dublin. With approximately 60 affordable housing units - all with rents below market rate — the complex will include a community room, teaching kitchen, fitness room, outdoor courtyard, small garden, and onsite person-centered enrichment activities and programs. Volunteers are always needed at the nonprofit to help with gardening and events. Follow this link to learn more on volunteer opportunities or shop its online market here.

2. Livermore Valley Arts: From office work to greeting audiences at live events, opportunities abound for those who support the arts in Livermore. This non-profit is devoted to bringing world-class art and entertainment to the Tri-Valley, including at the Bankhead Theater and Bothwell Arts Center. The group's stated mission is “to offer a broad range of arts opportunities and experiences to engage our diverse community.” See link here for details on volunteer roles.
3. Livermore Public Library: The library's Literacy Program and its volunteer-run Friends of the Library Bookstore (at the Civic Center location) welcomes community members to assist in various roles. Once trained as literacy tutors, volunteers are paired with adults who want to improve their basic reading and writing skills. No previous experience is necessary, and tutor trainings are scheduled throughout the year. And bookstore volunteers work at the shop and during book sales and events. Volunteer sign-ups are underway. See more information here.
