Acorn Woodpecker In Livermore: Photo Of The Day
Srini Vedam captured this gorgeous bird in Livermore.

LIVERMORE, CA — Livermore resident Srini Vedam captured the ultimate redhead, otherwise known as the acorn woodpecker. This beautiful bird is found in forested areas throughout the West Coast, Mexico, and Central America, and the males have bright red spots on their heads. They get their name because they love acorns, and will peck away until they get one. That's most likely what the bird in this photo was up to.
