Fire at Altamont Landfill May Burn For Days, Officials Say
Smoke from the fire can be seen from all over the Tri-Valley.
LIVERMORE, CA — Alameda County firefighters say a new fire at the Altamont Landfill is producing a large amount of smoke and could keep burning for a couple days, a battalion chief said.
The fire was reported at the Altamont Landfill, between Livermore and Tracy, at 7:36 p.m. Thursday. There's a large burning pile of landscaping materials measuring roughly 100 feet by 500 feet, and roughly 20 feet deep in some places, producing a large amount of smoke that can be seen from a distance, according
to Battalion Chief Stephanie Radecke.
They're concerned about putting firefighters on the pile of landscaping materials due to safety issues, and are using bulldozers and aircraft to fight the fire. Cal Fire was also at the scene.
