Catalytic Converter Etching Event Coming To Livermore

The Livermore Police Department and Las Positas College are again teaming up to make stolen catalytic converters easier to track.

LIVERMORE, CA — The Livermore Police Department and Las Positas College are teaming up for another free catalytic converter etching event on Tuesday, April 30, starting at 8 a.m. on Loop Road at Building 3500. Service is first-come, first-serve. Cars must be in line by 3 p.m. No appointments are needed.

Theft of valuable catalytic converters is a common problem throughout California, and inscribing them with license plate numbers and a Livermore Police Department identifier is meant to deter theft and make them easier to track down if they’re stolen. Replacing a stolen converter may cost up to $2500, according to Farmers Insurance.

At the last etching event in February, technicians etched over 2,000 cars, according to the Livermore Police Department. For more information, email crimeprevention@livermoreca.gov, or bhagopian@laspositascollege.edu.
