LIVERMORE, CA —Christiaan VandenHeuvel, a pastor and former president of the PTSA, announced his candidacy for the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District Board of Education.
VandenHeuvel is married to LVJUSD teacher Kristina VandenHeuvel, and is the father of two Livermore High School graduates. He served three years as president of PTSA for Livermore High School during the pandemic, and has also participated in School Site Councils for Livermore High School and East Avenue Middle School. After the pandemic, he also served on the Reopening Task Force. He is a frequent substitute teacher in the district, giving him direct classroom experience.
“My campaign is dedicated to building on the positive direction set by the board over the
past years,” VandenHeuvel said in a statement. “My priorities include improving education quality through data-driven best practices, fostering a collaborative board culture that resists polarization and radicalism, and ensuring every student can achieve their fullest potential. I advocate for increased conversation, compromise, and more good-faith arguments. I believe in nuanced communication and decision-making. I also plan to advocate for staff needs, collaborate with our three unions, and address important issues like student-to-teacher ratios.”
