City Council Selects Finalists for Open Seat

And then there were five.

City council members on Monday narrowed down a field of 20 applicants for the council's open seat by selecting the following finalists:

• David Furst
• Todd Storti
• Kathleen A. Streeter
• Darryl L. West
• Bob Woerner

The finalists will be interviewed at a special meeting Monday — with the council likely making an appointment that night to fill a vacancy made by .

Marchand, who was sworn in as mayor last month, previously served as vice mayor and vacates a term that is set to expire in November 2013.

The mayor described the finalists as a phenomenal group. Here's information pulled from each finalist's application to the city. Applications can also be viewed via the attachments on this article.

• Furst, a former board member, is a retired professor. He is a 16-year resident of Livermore. Resume highlights include being appointed to five city committees and two Alameda County committees.
• Storti, a 13-year resident of Livermore, currently serves as a chair for the city's planning commission. He works as a general manager for Livermore-based Recycling Logistics Inc. Resume highlights include serving on the Sunnyvale Political Action Committee and spending two years as director for the Alameda County Resource Reduction and Recycling Board. He also coached Granada Little League for eight years.
• Streeter, a 47-year resident of Livermore, is a retired vice president and manager for Bank of the West. She has been active in government in both Livermore and Hayward. In Livermore, she served on the Measure D Oversight Committee (2007, 2008 and 2009) and currently serves as a commissioner on the city's Commission for the Arts.
• West, a 36-year resident of Livermore, retired in 2010 from the construction industry. He has experience serving on numerous city committees, including seven years on the planning commission. In addition, he currently serves as board president for the Livermore Veterans Foundation.
• Woerner, a 35-year resident of Livermore, serves on the city's planning commission. He has a broad background in several disciplines, including strategic planning, finance, project management and process improvement. Woerner currently works as a senior director at Pacific Gas and Electric.

Here's the rest of the timeline the council is working on:

• Dec. 19 (special meeting) — Special meeting to conduct interviews and select councilmember to fill vacancy.
• Jan. 9 — Oath of Office administered to newly appointed councilmember.
