Eagle Scout Award for Shanny Feigenbaum
Eagle Scout project raises awareness and risks of fishing lines to wildlife at Shadow Cliffs and other East Bay Regional Parks
Shanny Feigenbaum completed her Eagle Board of Review and will receive the award at an Eagle Scout Court of Honor in the near future. Shanny is the daughter of Noah and Eyal Feigenbaum of Livermore, California.
She is a member of Troop 2942, sponsored by St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Thanks go to her Scoutmaster, Lorraine Ferguson for her dedication to Scouting and help along the way.
Shanny has been active in Scouting since Scouting became available to girls, and she helped found the first all-girls Scouts BSA troop in Livermore becoming the third Eagle Scout from the troop. Throughout her time in the troop, she took on several leadership roles, including Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Troop Guide, and Historian. These experiences taught her responsibility, teamwork, and how to lead by example.

Her Eagle Scout project goal was to increase awareness of the risk of monofilament (fishing lines) to wildlife, to install collection tubes, and to clean shorelines and docks in Shadow Cliffs.
The project included two main workdays. On the first day, a brochure was created for fishermen about monofilament, including its dangers to wildlife, disposal, and how to reduce the amount left around the docks as well as instructions for helping injured animals in the park. The brochure will be given to fishermen entering Shadow Cliffs and will be extended to other parks in the East Bay Regional Parks District (BRRPD). The second workday included shore and dock clean-ups, including removing monofilament. Four monofilament collection tubes were installed at the docks at Shadow Cliffs for disposal of monofilament, which can be recycled.

This project will ensure safer wildlife and help decrease the number of injured animals at Shadow Cliffs and other EBRPD parks.
Shanny is a sophomore at Granada High School. Her interests include baking, photography and hiking. She is a black belt in Taekwondo and has spent years mastering the discipline. In addition to training, she serves as an assistant coach at her Taekwondo studio, Elite Taekwondo Academy, helping to guide and support younger students. She also participates in track at Granada, where she continues to challenge herself both mentally and physically.
After high school, she plans to attend a four-year college where she can pursue her passion and major in a field that aligns with her interests and strengths. She’s excited about the opportunities college will bring, gaining independence, meeting new people, and continuing to grow both personally and academically. Her ultimate goal is to build a career where she can apply the discipline from Taekwondo, the leadership skills developed from her scouting journey, and as an assistant coach, and the determination she’s shown through both martial arts and track. She hopes to continue to contribute to the community in as many ways as possible, and to continue participating in troop events and meetings.
To earn the rank of Eagle Scout, a Scout must be active in their troop, provide leadership, earn 21 merit badges including the areas of citizenship, camping, communications, cooking and lifesaving or emergency preparedness as well as demonstrate that they live by the principles of the Scout Oath and the Scout Law.
