Gas Prices Near Livermore Expected to Stabilize: AAA

BAY AREA - Gas prices in the Bay Area, as well as statewide, are expected to stabilize ahead of the summer season as gasoline supplies remain well above normal levels, American Automobile Association officials said Tuesday.

The average price of gas in the Bay Area is $2.84 per gallon, up by $0.09 from April and slightly higher than the statewide average price of $2.80, which is up by $0.03 from April, according to a AAA gas survey.

"Historically, gasoline demand increases leading into the summer driving season, and this year so far is no different," AAA Northern California spokeswoman Cynthia Harris said.

"However, lower gas prices are contributing to drivers taking to the roads at record levels and the 2016 summer driving season is expected to rival 2007, when gasoline demand hit an all-time high."

Bay Area cities with the highest gas prices include San Francisco, with an average price of $2.96 per gallon, up by $0.11 from April, and San Rafael, with an average price of $2.91 per gallon, up by $0.10 from last month.

Bay Area cities with the lowest gas prices include Concord and Vallejo, both with an average price of $2.75 per gallon, and both up $0.07 from last month, according to AAA officials.

In comparison, the national average price of gasoline is at $2.21 per gallon, up by $0.15 from April, AAA officials said.
