I-580 Freeway Shooting Suspect Arrested: CHP

A suspect is accused of shooting five rounds at another car on eastbound I-580 just east of Livermore.

LIVERMORE, CA — A suspect is in custody after allegedly firing five rounds at another car on eastbound I-580 near the Altamont Pass Wednesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

On Wednesday at around 9:02 a.m., CHP officers were dispatched to investigate a shots-fired incident on eastbound I-580 between Flynn Road and Grant Line Road, in between Livermore and Tracy around the Altamont Pass.

The victim told officers that the driver of a red GMC Yukon fired at least five rounds from a handgun at him, according to a CHP news release. The victim was not injured, and their car was not struck by any gunfire.

The description of the suspect vehicle was shared with allied agency partners, and officers were able to search FLOCK cameras. As a result, the suspect vehicle was located in San Leandro by the San Leandro Police Department. Officials say they found a loaded firearm inside the suspect vehicle, and the suspect, whose name was not released, was arrested and booked at Santa Rita Jail.

The incident remains under investigation by CHP's Dublin Area and Golden Gate Division Special Investigation Unit.
