Livermore Aiming for Doolan Canyon

City council to consider adding more than 2,600 acres in Doolan Canyon to help preserve open space.

Council members tonight will hold a hearing and discuss adding more than 2,600 acres in Doolan Canyon to the city's "Sphere of Influence."

Officials say Livermore's 2003 general plan includes policies for preserving agriculture, protecting open space and biological resources, and establishing a greenbelt buffer surrounding the city.

Doolan Canyon serves as a significant open space buffer between the City of Livermore and the City of Dublin, a city staff report said.

Livermore's planning commission and city staff are recommending the council submit an application to the Alameda County Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCo) for the inclusion of Doolan Canyon into the city's Sphere of Influence.
