Livermore Man Accused Of Arson After Multiple Spot Fires Reported

Authorities say they have responded to several brush fires near the Super 8 Motel in recent weeks.

LIVERMORE, CA — A 34-year-old Livermore man is being accused of arson following several brush fires that cropped up in town, authorities said Wednesday.

Gilmar Portilla-Amaya is facing three counts of arson, the Livermore Police Department wrote in a statement.

Over the past several weeks, officers have responded to multiple vegetation fires along the Las Positas Corridor and near the Super 8 Motel, police said.

"These incidents posed a significant risk to public safety, especially during fire season," officials said.

During one of the fires is when officers made contact with Portilla-Amaya. After an investigation, detectives connected the man to two other fires.
