Livermore Man Accused Of Public Rape Gets Charges Dropped: Report

The San Francisco DA's Office was unable to corroborate eyewitness accounts or find the victim, KTVU reported.

LIVERMORE, CA — A Livermore man accused of raping an unconscious woman at a San Francisco bus stop was released from jail Saturday after the district attorney's office dropped the charges against him, KTVU reported.

Fidel Padilla, 41, was arrested in December after several people described a grisly scene to police: a man in his 40s, wearing dark clothing, had raped an unconscious woman at a bus stop in the Tenderloin neighborhood. One person in a passing bus yelled at him to stop, then people got off the bus to help the woman, police said. Officers received surveillance images of the man, then spotted and arrested him hours later, police said.

She was hospitalized for unspecified injuries and released.
