Livermore PD Warns Of Phone Scammers Impersonating Officers

Police multiple people reported scammers posing as law enforcement and attempting to extract payments over the phone.

LIVERMORE, CA — Police are sharing a few reminders after receiving multiple reports about a phone scam circulating in Livermore.

According to officials, the scammer poses as a member of the Livermore Police Department, often identifying themselves as "Officer Anderson." The caller then attempts to convince people to pay for made-up offenses, like unpaid medical claims or arrest warrants.

Police said the scammers often use technology to "spoof" caller ID, making the call appear to originate from a legitimate number. In a social media post, the department reminded community members that police will never demand or accept payments over the phone. Anyone who receives a suspicious call should ask for the caller's name and badge number and hang up immediately.
