Man Broke Into Livermore Car, Stealing Backpack, Wallet: LPD

Livermore police arrested a suspect accused of breaking into a car parked outside Starbucks and stealing a backpack full of valuables.

LIVERMORE, CA — A suspect was arrested on suspicion of breaking into a Livermore woman's car and stealing her backpack, wallet, credit cards, work badge, and driver's license. Authorities also say they found numerous other credit cards believed to be stolen at the home where the suspect was arrested.

On May 6 at around 6:15 a.m., Livermore police responded to a vehicle burglary in the parking lot of the Starbucks on Vasco Road, according to a Livermore Police Department. Witnesses told police that the suspect broke into a parked vehicle while the victim was inside the store, and stole a backpack containing a wallet, cell phone, and electronics before driving off.

Thanks to a description of the suspect vehicle and the use of the victim's credit card at a gas station in Livermore, LPD's Criminal Investigations Bureau located the suspect vehicle in San Jose. With the help of the San Jose Police Department, they served a search warrant at a nearby resident, where they say they recovered the victim's stolen backpack with everything inside. They also reportedly found numerous other credit cards believed to be stolen in addition burglaries across multiple cities.

The suspect, a 35-year-old man from Modesto was arrested on charges of auto burglary and fraudulent use of credit cards. Police say the victim has an extensive criminal history involving theft and car burglaries.

The case has been forwarded to the Alameda County District Attorney's Office, LPD said.
