UPDATE: Teen Identified in Fatal Rollover Crash

Authorities have identified the 17-year-old boy who died Tuesday in a solo-vehicle crash as David Goddard of Livermore.

said alcohol may have played a role in the crash, and they are continuing to investigate.

Emergency crews were sent to the intersection of Murrieta Boulevard and Portola Avenue shortly after 11 p.m. for a report of a van on its roof.

Goddard was driving northbound on Murrieta Boulevard and sped through the "T" intersection at Portola Avenue, police said. He crashed at the end of a parking lot for and  on Portola Avenue, striking a steel gate and another parked vehicle.

The teen was alone in the white Chevy and suffered "multiple blunt force injuries," officials said.

When firefighters arrived they could not reach Goddard and used rescue tools to open up the vehicle.

Goddard was pronounced dead when they found him, said Battalion Chief Joe Testa, Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department.

Mark Caruso was walking his dog on nearby Rincon Avenue when he saw the van speed by.

"I just saw a flash of light head into the lot," he said. "The next thing I hear is a loud boom!"

Brett Morrow, who lives about a block away on Paseo Laguna Seco, said the wreck sounded like an explosion.

Goddard appears to have been a nephew of Livermore Patch reader Cher Ambrose, who wrote the following on our Facebook page:

Thank you all for your prayers. My nephew was one of the sweetest, fun, caring...I could go on forever about what a blessing he is to our family. Our hearts are broken. Please continue to keep our family in your prayers.

A candlelight vigil for Goddard is planned at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the accident site.

Tuesday's incident was the third fatal crash in Livermore this year, police said.
