Pedestrian Fatally Struck On Livermore Train Tracks
A Union Pacific freight train struck and killed a person reportedly trespassing onto the track, resulting in major delays.
LIVERMORE, CA — A person was fatally struck by a Union Pacific freight train on the tracks near the intersection of N. L Street and Railroad Avenue, the train operator confirmed to Patch. The tracks are also used by the Altamont Corridor Express, resulting in severe delays Thursday afternoon and evening.
Just before 3 p.m. Thursday, an eastbound freight train traveling from Oakland to Lathrop hit a pedestrian on the tracks at the L Street crossing north of Railroad Avenue, according to the Livermore Police Department traffic sergeant. The train conductor sounded the horn and applied emergency brakes, but the pedestrian was still struck and killed.
Train crew were not injured, according to Robynn Tysver, a spokesperson for Union Pacific. The company said it is providing support for crew members operating the train at the time of the incident.

The collision resulted in severe delays for ACE trains Thursday afternoon, according to ACE and the Livermore Police Department. Service was impacted from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, according to ACE spokesperson David Lipari.
