Renovated Poppy Ridge Golf Club Reopening In Livermore
The redesigned 18-hole course reopens Saturday with wider fairways, better walkability, and upgraded practice areas.
LIVERMORE, CA — The Poppy Ridge Golf Course, one of two courses owned and operated by the Northern California Golf Association, reopens Saturday following a full redesign by architect Jay Blasi.
The former 27-hole municipal golf course underwent a 13-month renovation that turned it into a reimagined 18-hole championship course.
“It is completely different from the old concept, so it’s a new and thrilling experience for all,” Blasi said in a statement. “I would suspect that first-timers are taken by the beauty of the site and the surrounding vistas, and that they appreciate how the golf course fits the landscape. For regulars who played Poppy Ridge many times before the project, I would hope that they appreciate the newfound walkability, playability and variety of the layout.”

In addition to highlighting the surrounding panoramic views, the new design prioritizes accessibility and flow. Walks between greens and tees have been shortened, and the course’s overall elevation change is reduced by 400 feet. Players will walk roughly 2,000 yards less over the course of a round, according to a news release. Fairways have also been widened, bunkers have been tailored to the shot, and turf has been upgraded with Santa Ana Bermuda.
The practice facility has also been upgraded, and now features a 1.25-acre hitting area, a chipping green with bunkers, and a 17,000-square-foot putting green.

The course has also introduced The Ridge 9, a par-34 short course composed of modified and new holes from the original Merlot and Chardonnay nines.
