15-Year-Old Shot Near High School Campus In Long Beach
The shooting happened just before 3 p.m. Monday near Cabrillo High School, according to authorities.
LONG BEACH, CA — A 15-year-old boy was hospitalized Monday after being shot near a high school campus in Long Beach, according to authorities.
Police say the boy was a passenger in a vehicle when someone in a passing car in the area of Adriatic Avenue and West 20th Street shot him in the upper body just before 3 p.m. The area is about a block away from Cabrillo High School in West Long Beach.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded to the area and took the teen to a local hospital for treatment, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

His wound is not considered life-threatening, according to police, who said officers responded to the scene and located evidence of the shooting up the street near Adriatic Avenue and Hill Street.
Suspect information and a motive remain under investigation, according to police.

In a statement Tuesday, Vice Mayor and Councilmember Roberto Uranga said in an Instagram post that he was "saddened" to hear about the shooting and said the 15-year-old is a Cabrillo High School student.
“My heart is with all those affected by this tragic incident,” Uranga, who represents the area, said.
Police did not confirm whether the boy was a Cabrillo High School student and deferred questions about his student status to the Long Beach Unified School District.
