17-Year-Old Shot While Walking In Long Beach

A teen boy took himself to the hospital after he was shot while walking in Long Beach Sunday evening.

LONG BEACH, CA — A 17-year-old boy was shot while walking at the Los Angeles River Sunday evening, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

The boy transported himself to a nearby hospital, where doctors notified police about the incident. According to LBPD, the boy was walking in an unknown area of the Los Angeles Riverbed at about 5:49 p.m. when he was shot.

"The victim stated he was walking in an unknown area of the Los Angeles Riverbed when he heard a loud noise that he believed to be a gunshot and was struck in the lower body," LBPD said in a statement.

Officers canvassed the area, but were unable to locate a crime scene. Suspect information and the motive for the shooting are still under investigation, LBPD said.
