🌱 2.7 Earthquake In Carson + Chase Ends At Rec Park Golf Course

There were a couple of mild earthquakes (by California standards) on Monday and Tuesday. Also, golfers had quite the excitement on the greens when a car chase ended there. Finally, there was a shooting in the 300 block of Magnolia Avenue.

  1. Rancho Palos Verdes had a 2.6 magnitude earthquake on Monday at 9:47 p.m. A few hours later, at 3:41 a.m. on Tuesday, Carson had a 2.7 magnitude quake. People in Torrance, Paramount, and near Marine Stadium reported feeling it. (LB Post)
  2. Recreation Park Golf Course saw quite a bit of excitement on Monday afternoon. Those on the greens found themselves at the end of a vehicle chase that began in the Calabasas area. Two people exited the vehicle, rain across a fairway, and were chased by deputies on a motorcycle and golf cart. Next, a sheriff’s department helicopter landed. (NBC)
  3. A man was wounded Tuesday morning when a man shot into his residence. The shooting occurred in the 300 block of Magnolia Avenue. Gang detectives are involved in the case. (LB Post)
  4. Aggravated assaults in the City increased in 2021 by 11.2%. The LBPD released its crime statistics that also show a 7.7% increase in overall violent crime. “While most major cities in our country experienced an increase in murders compared to 2020, the murder rate in Long Beach did not increase,” the Chief of Police explained.   5. Rich Dines announced his candidacy for the new fifth city council district (CD5) about a month ago. He had already garnered the endorsement from former Mayor Bob Foster. On Monday, he suspended his campaign because of “a dream opportunity.” As a result, candidates for CD5 are currently political consultant Ian Patton and LBUSD Board of Education member Megan Kerr.
