2024 Election Results In Long Beach: Local Measures, LBCC Trustee

There are plenty of key races underway in Long Beach this 2024 General Election season.

LONG BEACH, CA — Election day has come and gone in Long Beach and preliminary results are in for local city measures, Long Beach Community College Board of Trustees and City Council.

City Council

In Long Beach's City Council District 4 incumbent Daryl Supernaw ran against challenger Herlinda Chico. As of 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Supernaw was leading the race with almost 60 percent of the vote, or a total of 10,214 votes. Chico followed with just over 40 percent of the vote, or a total of 6,908 votes.

Citywide, residents made decisions on Measure LB, Measure JB, Measure HC and Measure AC.

If passed, Measure LB would have two natural gas fueled electric power plants operating in the city to pay the same 5 percent utility users tax on natural gas service. As of 1 p.m. on Wednesday, voters favored the measure with over 80 percent of votes to approve it, or a total of 88,174 votes.

Measure JB sought to amend the Long Beach City Charter to combine the Civil Service and Human Resources Departments to manage all employee recruitment, hiring and certifications. The measure also aims to establish an independent Civil Service Employees Rights and Appeals Commission.

As of 1 p.m. on Wednesday, votes to approve Measure JB were the majority at 61.5 percent, or 64,444 total votes. Votes against the measure made up about 38 percent of the total, or 40,247 total votes.

Measure HC would reduce Harbor and Public Utilities Commissioner terms to four years and increase penalties for Harbor Department rules. As of 1 p.m. on Wednesday, votes in favor of the measure were the majority with 57.4 percent, or 58,302 total votes. Votes against the measure included 42.5 percent, or 43,208 total votes.

Measure AC would authorize $990 million in bonds to repair classrooms and improve career and first responder training. As of 1 p.m. on Wednesday, approval for the measure made up a majority of votes with 66.9 percent, or 83,761 total votes. Votes against the measure totaled 33 percent, or 41,430 total votes.

Long Beach Community College District Board of Trustees

Residents also made a decision between Long Beach Community College District Board of Trustees candidates Ennette Morton and Richard Gaylord. As of 1 p.m. on Wednesday, the race was incredibly tight with Morton leading by just over 100 votes.

Votes for Morton made up 50.2 percent, or 15,645 votes, and votes for Gaylord made up 49.8 percent, or 15,531, votes.
