Slain 5-Year-Old Found After Hours-Long Standoff In Long Beach

The child and an adult suspect were found dead in an apparent murder-suicide inside a burning Long Beach home.

LONG BEACH, CA — A 5-year-old child was found dead after an hours-long standoff between Long Beach police and a suspect barricaded inside a home near Silverado Park.

The Long Beach Police Department received a call about a domestic dispute at about 2:38 p.m. Thursday and responded to the 3400 block of Adriatic Avenue.

When officers arrived, they noticed a large plume of smoke and fire coming from the residence. The Long Beach Fire Department also responded to the scene to put the fire out.

Officers believed the suspect barricaded themself in the residence, so they established a perimeter and the SWAT team was activated. Nearby residents were evacuated or told to shelter in place while SWAY negotiators attempted to make contact with the suspect.

Police obtained a search warrant to enter the residence and upon entering, they found the suspect dead with "an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound."

Officers also found a 5-year-old child dead in the home.

Homicide detectives said they believe the incident was a murder-suicide and the investigation is ongoing.
