🤔 Aggressive Urban Coyotes or Regular L.A. County Wildlife Poll
We live with raccoons and opossums. Do coyotes fall into the same category? They don’t need open space, have no problems building dens close to humans, and are becoming more and more visible on our neighborhood streets. Talk to ten different neighbors, and you get ten different opinions. What do you think?
📰 Here are the top stories in Long Beach today:
1) Have you been surprised to hear airplanes at night when you typically don’t? We learned on Tuesday that the Long Beach Airport is still working on its “$25 million taxiway improvement project” that will now go on until November. This means that “nighttime flights will be forced to land on an east-west runway near Douglas Park,” and you will continue hearing the noise or having your windows rattle. (Long Beach Post)
2) The El Dorado Neighborhood Library is currently only offering To-Go Service, but it will reopen for regular in-person service on Saturday at 10 a.m. Filming will be occurring at the 2900 North Studebaker Road location, which curtails the use of the facility. (Long Beach Public Library)
3) Mark your calendars! Los Cerritos Park is getting a new mural! It will memorialize the family of three who was run over and killed on Halloween in 2019. The mural will be painted on Saturday between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., and members of the community are encouraged to participate. Los Cerritos Park is located at 3750 Del Mar Avenue. Council member Roberto Uranga spearheaded the effort. (Eventbrite)
4) Art is also coming to St. Mary Medical Center at 1050 Linden Avenue! We learned on Wednesday that the facility’s President Wellness Challenge looks to art as a way “to get employees to take on healthier daily habits.” The CEO explained that “art has been shown to help lower heart rate and reduce anxiety and what better way to inspire our staff to take the stairs instead of the elevators than by having amazing murals lead the way.” (Press-Telegram)
5) Mark your calendars some more! On Sunday, Council member Suely Saro wants residents to visit Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park at 1950 Lemon Avenue. Hosting “A Dream for King Park,” there will be food and a kick-off event for the “vision planning efforts for the future of King Park.” (Councilwoman Suely Saro)
