📰 Here are the top stories today in Long Beach:

1) A traffic accident occurred Friday morning just before 1 a.m. in the 2100 block of Orange Avenue. An adult driver sustained critical injuries. She “was heading southbound on Orange Avenue and crossed into the northbound lanes, striking two unoccupied parked vehicles along the curb.” (Long Beach Police Department)

2) A man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of setting a dozen homeowners’ American and military flags on fire. Video footage shows him walking around Iroquois and Hackett avenues around 3:30 a.m. with a lighter in hand. One of the burning flags fell on top of a car, which promptly “became engulfed in flames.” Residents were able to identify the suspect using the video footage. (Fox)

3) The Long Beach City Council discussed a new Studebaker Road project on Tuesday. The plan includes the addition of a protected bike lane between Los Coyotes Diagonal and 2nd Street. “Other improvements could include things like new curb ramps, bus stop enhancements, new crosswalks, flashing beacons, and a gateway entry sign where Studebaker intersects Los Coyotes Diagonal.” Besides that, there may be lane reductions between 2nd Street and Loynes Drive to accommodate a hardscape median. The city plans to invite bids by summer and break ground in fall. (Long Beach Post)

4) On Tuesday, the city celebrated the groundbreaking for a new Long Beach Junior Lifeguard facility. It will be built “on East Ocean Boulevard and Claremont Place, adjacent to the Claremont Launch Ramp.” The planned 925-square-foot facility will replace a 530-square-foot structure, which will be demolished. (City of Long Beach)

5) Thursday evening, Poly and Wilson faced off in girls’ soccer. “Poly took the first marquee Moore League game of the season 1-0,” with Kiara Van Deusen getting a ball in the goal that not even Olivia Herrera could stop. "We knew if we kept balance and shape and then worked out of that shape, we’d be alright," said Poly’s coach. “Credit to Poly, they’re tough to play against,” Wilson’s coach added. (The562.org)
