📰 2022 News Poll 📍
There was a lot of bad news in 2022. However, there was some great news, too. Which was your favorite good news story of 2022?

📰 Here are the top stories in Long Beach today:

  1. Trespassing at a business in the 600 block of Atlantic Avenue turned into a SWAT call on Monday. Officers from the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) responded at 9:21 p.m. and evacuated patrons and employees. Meanwhile, the adult male, wielding what turned out to be an airsoft gun, refused to cooperate. SWAT rolled, and the suspect surrendered eventually. “The suspect was booked for trespassing and being under the influence of a controlled substance.” (LBPD)
  2. The giant penny art installation at downtown Lincoln Park became the site of a protest on Monday. The "Change the Name Coalition" put up gallows to “honor the 38 Dakota men who were hanged by the United States government in 1862.” The group wants to see the park’s name changed because “of President Abraham Lincoln’s role in ordering or overseeing the deaths of Native Americans during his presidency.” It’s interesting to note that before 1915, the park was called Pacific Park. (Long Beach Post)
  3. The City of Long Beach wants to award $5 million “to qualified housing developers for the production of affordable rental housing.” Besides that, the city made “200 project-based vouchers (PBVs) for rental assistance available to property owners and developers of affordable homes.” We learned on Thursday that you have until March 21 at 4 p.m. to submit your proposal. (City of Long Beach)
  4. Tuesday saw more flight cancellations by Southwest Airlines at the Long Beach Airport. The airport warned customers that “Southwest is experiencing disruptions across their network, and flights have been impacted.” It's noteworthy that of the “nearly 3,000 (flights) canceled Monday,” about 2,900 were by Southwest. The airline advised that a broad range of flights would be “unavailable through Saturday.” The U.S. Department of Transportation announced that it would investigate the airline’s quantity of cancellations. 5. Animé Los Angeles 18 is coming to the Long Beach Convention Center from January 5 to 8. Insiders look forward to rubbing elbows with Kaho Shibuya, TemperMental, Kayleigh McKee, Signal Fires, and many more! (Animé Los Angeles 18)
