📰 Here are the top stories in Long Beach today:

1) On Sunday morning, officers from the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) responded to the 2100 block of Curry Street. A witness had called in a commercial burglary in progress. Sure enough, officers “observed multiple suspects on the roof of a business,” closed Cherry Avenue, and called in SWAT. “Multiple suspects” were arrested. (Long Beach Post)

2) Sunday evening, just before midnight, there was a home-invasion robbery in the 2000 block of Beverly Plaza. Three suspects held a mother and her three children at gunpoint while ransacking the home. Reportedly, the suspects were male adults. “It was unclear if the family was targeted or randomly chosen.” Nobody was injured. (KTLA)

3) A plane headed for Hawaii made an emergency landing at the Long Beach Airport on Monday just after 8:20 a.m. It had taken off from San Diego when the cockpit reported engine failure. “The plane was circling above the Pacific to burn off fuel before attempting to land at Long Beach Airport.” (CBS)

4) At capacity since October, Long Beach Animal Care Services is looking to empty the cages and will host a first-ever Happy Howlidays series of pet adoption events. If you have room in your home and your heart, please check out some available pets! The first event is this Saturday at Houghton Park. Beginning at 1 p.m., “the public is encouraged to participate in the event by donning their favorite ugly holiday sweaters, bringing unopened, store-bought pet supplies to support the shelter’s operations — or by adopting a new pet.” (Press-Telegram)

5) The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners once again loosened its purse strings and “approved 156 sponsorships totaling $508,150, enabling community organizations to host a wide variety of events and programs.” We learned on Monday that some of the recipients are Cambodia Town, Inc., the Camerata Singers of Long Beach, the Historical Society of Long Beach, and the Long Beach Blues Society. Turned away, among others, were some requests by the Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce. (Port of Long Beach, 2)
