Another 25% want to live healthier, and the final 16.7% plan to embrace change.

📰 Here are the top stories today in Long Beach:

  1. A motorcycle hit a pickup truck on PCH near Molino Avenue Sunday evening around 7:40 p.m. Reportedly, the male adult motorcyclist was going west on PCH “at a high rate of speed and riding a ‘wheelie’” when something went wrong; he lost control, and he struck the truck going east. The motorcyclist was rushed to a hospital, where “he is listed in critical condition.” (Long Beach Police Department)
  2. The 20-acre development along the L.A. River “sandwiched between Wardlow Road to the south and the I-405 Freeway to the north” received the Planning Division’s approval. We learned on Sunday that the development will consist of 226 townhomes, 11 of which are for lower-income residents, in the “Spanish Colonial, Italianate, and Santa Barbara styles.” Five acres will feature open space with a soccer field. “The new green space would be owned and maintained by the River Park homeowner's association, but kept available for use by the general public.” It’ll take about four years to build this development. (L.A. Urbanize)
  3. The traditional Wilson High School holiday concert is on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Arrive at the auditorium at 4400 East 10th Street a little early to find your seat. “More than 200 Wilson students from intermediate orchestra, string orchestra, saxophone ensemble, guitar ensemble, symphonic winds, symphony strings, symphony orchestra and choirs will perform more than a dozen holiday songs in a two-hour show.” The finale will be the Hallelujah chorus; you’ll want to be there! (The HiLo)
  4. The Rogers Middle School’s gymnasium will be named to honor Tim Ching, who “recently retired after 42 years as a PE teacher and coach of football, basketball, track and field, and baseball/softball” (when middle schoolers still had the opportunity to play these sports). Ching made a difference at the school, won multiple awards, and the assistant superintendent said the retired teacher “deserves this honor and recognition for his many years of outstanding service to multiple generations of families as an exceptional physical education teacher, coach, and mentor.” (Long Beach Post)
  5. Snoop Dogg’s going country — sort of. The Long Beach rapper, who has lent his name and energy to a variety of business ventures, now has “a new line of Western-inspired streetwear.” Of course, this isn’t your typical country-style garb. The line “mixes cowboy culture and urban street styles in the form of trucker hats, T-shirts, and crewneck sweaters.” Sales began on Sunday. So, get yourself a trucker hat, enjoy a glass of 19 Crimes, chow down on some gluten-free Snoop Loopz, and don’t forget to dress up your pooch in Snoop Doggie Doggs! (Press-Telegram)
