DUI, Manslaughter Charges Filed In Deadly Alamitos Bay Boat Crash
Prosecutors allege that Long Beach resident Kevin King, 57, was driving a boat under the influence before the deadly crash.

LONG BEACH, CA —A Long Beach man has been charged in connection with a boat crash last summer in Alamitos Bay that left one man dead and several more injured, authorities announced Wednesday.
Kevin King, 57, was charged Wednesday with one count of vehicular manslaughter in the operation of a vessel while intoxicated and one count of operating a vessel or water device under the influence of alcohol, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. The charges come nine months after the unusual crash that sent shockwaves through the boating community.
King also faces special allegations of personally inflicting great bodily injury on seven people, according to the LADA.

“This case is a tragic reminder of the devastating consequences of operating any vehicle — on land or water — while under the influence of alcohol,” District Attorney Hochman said in a statement Wednesday. “A day of recreation turned into a nightmare, leaving one person dead and many others seriously injured.
Prosecutors allege King was driving a 48-foot sport fishing boat in Long Beach's Alamitos Bay while under the influence of alcohol the night of July 3, 2024, when he crashed into a jetty.

John Correa, 59, died in the crash and seven others aboard the boat were seriously injured, according to authorities.
"My support and sympathy go out to the family and friends of John Correa — a former Millikan High School and UC Berkeley baseball player, coach and mentor — as they continue to mourn their loss, and I wish the injured a full recovery," Hochman said. "Anyone who chooses to operate a vehicle intoxicated — whether a car, motorcycle, or boat — puts lives at risk, and they will be held accountable.”
King, who has pleaded not guilty to the charges, faces up to 13 years in state prison if convicted, according to prosecutors.
