Elderly Man Riding Electric Mobility Scooter Killed

The 91-year-old was struck Wednesday by a motorist driving a pickup truck.

A 91-year-old man on his electric mobility scooter was struck and killed by a motorist driving a pickup truck, police said Thursday.

The accident occurred at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Willow Street and Temple Avenue, Signal Hill police Sgt. Brian Leyn said.

The man was crossing Temple Avenue at eastbound Willow Street on his four-wheeled scooter when the Ford F-250 pickup truck made a right turn, striking him, Leyn said.

Paramedics rushed the man to an area hospital, where he died from his injuries at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Signal Hill police Sgt. Robert Cravens said.

The motorist was not cited or arrested, Cravens said, and the accident was under investigation.

The name of the victim will be released pending notification of next of kin, according to the coroner’s office.
