Fatal Crash Between Big Rig and Box Truck Shutters 605 Freeway

A portion of the 605 Freeway was shut down due to a fatal collision between a big rig and a box truck, according to authorities.

LONG BEACH, CA — A fatal collision between a big rig and a box truck shut down a section of the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway in Long Beach on Wednesday.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened at approximately 11 a.m. when a box truck crashed into a big rig that was pulled over on the side of the roadway near Wardlow Road. Long Beach Fire Department Paramedics responded to the scene.

Despite attempts to save the man's life, he was pronounced dead just before 12 p.m.

CalTrans closed the freeway around 1:30 p.m. for an unspecified period due to the collision.
