LONG BEACH, CA — Multiple fighter jets that were expected to arrive at Long Beach Airport this weekend for military operations will no longer do so, according to officials.

The four F/A-18 aircraft were expected to arrive on Friday and would be flying in and out of the airport on Saturday, Long Beach Airport officials said on social media Wednesday morning. The aircraft was set to leave the airport on Sunday.

"We do not have any specific details about this operation other than what we shared with our city council and publicly," James Mattone, a spokesperson for LGB, told Patch before it was announced the jets would no longer arrive at the airport. "However, we expect zero impact to our commercial flight operations and schedules."

Airport officials did not say why the aircraft was no longer arriving this weekend.

Long Beach Airport, however, has a long history of military operations, Mattone said. Most recently, the F/A-18 aircraft conducted operations in April, including taking part in a flyover for the Grand Prix event.
