Fireman Injured Battling Early Morning House Fire

A Long Beach firefighter suffered 2nd-degree burns fighting a house fire early Sunday morning on the 2400 block of Roswell Avenue, officials said.

Firemen arriving about 6 a.m. found a single-story home engulfed in flames, according to a statement by the Long Beach Fire Department.

The occupant of the home and his dog were able to get out on their own and suffered no injuries.

The injured firefighter suffered 2nd-degree burns to his ears, neck, and knees, officials said. He was taken to Long Beach Memorial Medical Center for evaluation and then transferred to the USC Burn Center, where he was treated and released. 

The cause of the blaze is under investigation and a damage estimate was not immediately available.
