📢 Fireworks Poll!
Fireworks are illegal in Long Beach. If the police are called, you may have to pay as much as $20,000 in response costs plus citation fines of $1,000. How do you feel about that? Please let me know your thoughts! (As of today, 11.7% don’t want fireworks, 77.6% want “safe and sane fireworks,” and 0.6% don’t care one way or the other while another 10.2% want to buy what they choose.)
Here are the top five stories in Long Beach today:
- There was a third-floor apartment fire Friday morning in the 3900 block of Allin Street. The building is located next to the Belmont Brewing Company. While busy putting out the blaze, firefighters “also had to contend with fireworks in an apartment on the second floor of the building.” (LB Post)
- First, there were scooters. Now, there will be electric motorbikes. We learned on Wednesday that Lime has selected Long Beach for a pilot program that brings “electric motorbikes to its existing fleet of e-bikes and e-scooters.” The company considers its modes of transportation ideal for those getting sticker shock at the pump. (Engadget)
- Speaking of sticker shock, parking in Belmont Shore might be getting more expensive. The City Council will vote on Tuesday on “a proposal to raise the hourly rates for metered spaces by 50 cents.” Beginning July, rates could increase from $1 per hour to $1.50 per hour. It’ll still be cheaper than parking along The Pike, where you have to pay $2 per hour. (LB Post)
- Southwest Airlines announced on Thursday that it will offer “daily, nonstop flights from Long Beach Airport (LGB) to Nashville International Airport (BNA), with service set to start on Nov. 6.” Tickets are already on sale. (LB Local News)
- Mark your calendars! The Day Trip Festival brings house music to the Queen Mary Waterfront. Scheduled for June 25 and 26, the event takes place rain or shine. (Day Trip Fest)
