💧 Water Crisis Poll! 💧
Residents are limited to watering their landscapes two days per week, before 9 a.m. or after 4 p.m. What else should the City do to deal with the water crisis? Please let me know your thoughts! So far, 23.3% want to mandate drought-resistant landscaping, 20.9% want to recycle wastewater for irrigation, another 34.9% want to build a desalination plant at the coast, and 20.9% don’t believe residential water use contributes to the water crisis.

Here are the top five stories in Long Beach today:

  1. There was a garage fire “in the alley rear of 2000 Block Lime Avenue.” Firefighters responded Monday evening around 8:42 p.m. and found the structure “fully engulfed” in flames. “Down power lines on fire were observed exploding.” (LB Local News)
  2. A next door neighbor offered some on-the-ground reporting on Monday near Tincher Prep on Petaluma. The neighbor filmed a tree fire that appears to be the result of “50 high school- to college-aged kids (coming) out of the school and were throwing artillery shell fireworks on the front lawn of the school, and the front yards of the houses across the street.” Nobody was arrested and there appear to have been jurisdictional concerns. (NextDoor)
  3. The LBPD had a busy Fourth of July. A stabbing took place after 8 p.m. in "the 400 block of Shoreline Drive." There was a shooting “near the 6200 block of De Forest Avenue” after 10 p.m. At “the intersection of Long Beach Boulevard and Plymouth Street,” there was a hit-and-run with a subsequent assault and shots fired. After midnight, they responded “to the 800 block of Rose Avenue,” where they found a 16-year-old with a gunshot wound. Finally, around 4:32 a.m. on July 5, someone fired a gun into the air during an argument in “the 3600 block of Caspian Avenue.” (LBPD)
  4. The City wants you to stop using plastic. It declared July to be Plastic Free. For the current week, officials urge you to shop with reusable bags and buy loose products rather than those that are packaged in plastic. (LB Recycles)
  5. Mark your calendars! The Holy Revival Church is hosting RiZen in concert on July 10. The group performs at 2:30 p.m., and you need to buy your ticket ahead of time. (Holy Revival Church)
