Long Beach Grand Prix Street Closures: When and Where

Several streets will shut down starting Wednesday, April 9, as Grand Prix roars back into town for its 50th anniversary.

LONG BEACH, CA — The highly anticipated Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach is back for its 50th anniversary, and with it, come several street closures in the Downtown area for the next week. Here's what you need to know.

Wednesday, April 9

Over the last several weeks, the Downtown area near The Pike has been transformed into a race track. Though traffic has been allowed to flow through during this time, there will be significant changes starting Wednesday, April 9.

The side streets off Shoreline Drive and Seaside Way that lead into the racecourse will be closed starting at 4 a.m.

Westbound Shoreline Drive, Aquarium Way south of Shoreline Drive and the northbound and southbound Queensway off-ramps and Aquarium Way will be closed as of 7 a.m.

Eastbound Shoreline Drive from Broadway to Ocean Boulevard will be closed at around 3 p.m. Pine Avenue, meanwhile, will remain open to allow access to the Hyatt, Shoreline Village, and the Shoreline Marina.

The Aquarium of the Pacific will remain open, but visitors will have to access it through Chestnut Place or Golden Shore Avenue. City officials said in a statement that all vehicles using the aquarium's parking structure must be out by 3 p.m. the following day.

Friday, April 11 through Sunday, April 13

Access to the Hyatt, Shoreline Village and the Shoreline Marina from Ocean Boulevard to Pine Avenue will be closed from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Pike's interior streets will also be shut down.

Grand Prix attendees will be able to access the south side of the track through an entrance at Ocean Boulevard and Alamitos Avenue. Those with boat owner permits will also be allowed access, according to Long Beach city officials.

Anyone looking to access the waterfront restaurants after 7 p.m. can park either at Shoreline Village or use valet parking, city officials said.

Aquarium visitors will have to park at the Queen Mary lot through these dates. Free shuttles to and from the aquarium will be provided, according to city officials.

Monday, April 14

By Monday, traffic is expected to be restored throughout the Downtown area.

This includes east and westbound Shoreline Drive, the Queensway Bridge ramps, Pine Avenue, Shoreline Village Drive and The Pike area.

The Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach started in 1975 and attracts hundreds of thousands of racing fans each year to the Downtown Long Beach area.

This year, the British-American band Foreigner, known for songs like "I Want to Know What Love Is" and "Feels like the First Time" will be headlining the event's Saturday concert.
